Jim Rutherford, General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, announced that the team has signed goaltender Anton Khudobin to a two-year contract extension that will pay the Russian goalie $2 million in the 2014-2015 season and $2.5 million in the 2015-2016 season.
Jim Rutherford made the following statement in the team’s official release:
“We are pleased to be able to keep Anton with the Hurricanes. He has played well this season and signing him helps solidify our team’s goaltending situation.”
Anton Khudobin leads all Carolina Hurricanes goalies in wins (13), goals against average (2.17), save percentage (.927), and has the least amount of losses out of all Carolina Hurricanes goalies with eight. Khudobin has played in 22 games, and has started 21 of those games.
Anton Khudobin was rewarded with the NHL’s First Star of the Month honors in January of 2014.
I thought it was extremely important for the Carolina Hurricanes to get a deal done with Anton Khudobin prior to the end of the season. Now that the Canes have him locked up until the end of the 2015-2016, it makes it much easier for the team the shop around goalie Cam Ward.
The Carolina Hurricanes did a good job signing Anton Khudobin to a very reasonable contract. Now the full focus of the team will be on trying to make moves at the NHL trade deadline that will help the team.
