Hurricanes’ Outlook: Things have been going just as bad as possible for the Hurricanes since the Olympic break and the Sharks only present another tough challenge for the team to overcome.
As if the results weren’t bad enough on the ice, the Canes announced yesterday that Justin Faulk is expected to miss the next 10 games due to an upper-body injury, although not a concussion.
With Faulk’s absence, Andrej Sekera will have to play without the 21-year-old for the first time this season. It will be interesting to see who coach Kirk Muller uses with Sekera. Ron Hainsey and John-Michael Liles play the most similar game to Faulk.
Anton Khudobin is likely to be back in net. GM Jim Rutherford said contract talks have begun with the Kazakhstan native, but the goalie has also been part of trade rumors as tomorrow’s trade deadline approaches.
Sharks’ Lineup: The Sharks are having another great regular season and have plenty of depth to lead the team into the postseason. The Sharks just got Logan Couture and Raffi Torres back from injury on Sunday against the New Jersey Devils.
Both forwards scored a goal against the Devils, helping the team to a 4-2 victory.
Joe Pavelski, Patrick Marleau and Joe Thornton all have over 55 points for the team and Pavelski has 32 goals. The Hurricanes have one player over 20 goals.
Antti Niemi has been solid in net, earning 29 wins, a .911 save percentage and 2.41 goals-against average.
A recap will be posted after the game.
