Sami Vatanen of the Anaheim Ducks is a young, upcoming offensive defenseman that has potential to be a star player in the NHL. That’s why it is surprising that rumors have started that the 22-year-old could be getting shopped around by the Anaheim Ducks.
Eklund of Hockey Buzz broke the news yesterday.
“The Ducks are willing to listen to offers for Sami Vatanen according to three sources and there is one solid future star who may jump to the top of the class of defensemen available.”
The Finnish Olympian has had a short yet successful NHL career up to this point, and it looks like he has a lot of terrific hockey ahead of him. The former 4th round draft will likely draw a lot of teams in and out of playoff contention. The Ducks are likely looking for more experienced and proven roster players for Vatanen as they go for a Stanley Cup this postseason.
The Carolina Hurricanes should have interest here. It’s been rumored that the Carolina Hurricanes want a two-way defenseman who can step in and play in the top-four. Sami Vatanen can do that right now, but he can also step up into a top-two role down the road.
If the Carolina Hurricanes continue to fall out of playoff contention, they could pick up a young defenseman with great upside like Sami Vatanen, if the price is right.
