We’ve known for a while that the Carolina Hurricanes were willing to trade Justin Peters and were exploring options with Cam Ward, but Darren Dreger has a new rumor regarding the three-headed monster that is the Hurricanes’ goalies.
Tough decisions ahead for Hurricanes. Teams saying Carolina is open to trading any one of its 3 goaltenders, including Cam Ward.

GM Jim Rutherford trying to trade Peters and Ward was never that surprising because it made sense, but if the team is opened to trading Anton Khudobin, it would be a surprising twist.
Khudobin has been stellar in net this season and was named January’s First Star of the Month after winning 10 games and has arguably become the Hurricanes’ starting goalie.
However, Khudobin may have more trade value than Ward. Ward is signed to an expensive contract and has been inconsistent these past two seasons, while Khudobin is signed to a cheap contract and is having a great year with future starting capabilities.
To me, this goes beyond the goaltending problem though. If Rutherford is willing to shop the goalie that has helped put his team in a position to compete for playoffs, it’s possible Rutherford will be a seller at the trade deadline.
The Canes have slipped to seventh in the Metropolitan after three losses in a row and are seven points out of the last wild card spot.
Unfortunately for the Hurricanes, Rutherford may have lost hope in them.
