Charlotte Checkers Recap

Justin Peters had a strong effort in his first game with the Checkers on his conditioning stint, but couldn’t do enough as the team lost to the Texas Stars, 3-2, in the shootout.

After a scoreless first period, the Stars and Checkers exchanged goals in the second with Phillipe Cornet scoring his eighth of the season for Charlotte.

Mark Flood gave the Checkers a one-goal lead four minutes into the third, but the team could not hold on as Chris Mueller tied it nine minutes later.

Matej Stransky scored in the seventh round of the shootout after Brett Sutter missed to give the Stars the 3-2 win. Aaron Palushaj, Chris Terry and Brody Sutter scored in the shootout for the Checkers.

Ryan Murphy, Victor Rask and Justin Shugg all recorded assists, while Peters made 34 saves and three in the shootout.

The Checkers play the Hershey Bears on Wednesday next. Peters and Murphy could be back with the Hurricanes by that time.
