Charlotte Checkers Preview

The Checkers will have a chance to extend their two-game winning streak tonight as they take on the Texas Stars on the road at 8:30 p.m. In four meetings in the month of January, the teams split two wins and two losses in several high-scoring affairs.

Before Charlotte went on its two-game winning streak, the team suffered a five-game losing streak that has pushed the Checkers further down the Western Conference standings. The team sits in 12th and six points out of the last playoff spot.

However, the team will have help over the next two games as Justin Peters rejoined the Checkers on a conditioning stint and is likely to stay for the weekend. Peters hasn’t played in a while, so he may be a tad rusty, but has been historically strong for the team.

But the Checkers will also need to score some goals. Zach Boychuk and Chris Terry had strong games against the Abbottsford Heat on Sunday, and production will need to continue from the top scorers if success is to come.

The Checkers also play the Stars Saturday.
