Carolina Hurricanes Olympic Update - February 21

Justin Faulk finally saw some game action, while Tuomo Ruutu continued his Olympic action. Here are how the two did:

Justin Faulk

In his first game of the 2014 Olympics, Faulk barely saw the ice, playing as the seventh defenseman. When he did, he was usually paired with Pittsburgh Penguin Brooks Orpik.

Faulk was put into the lineup because other Pens defenseman Paul Martin was injured, most likely in the Czech Republic game. The severity of the injury was not announced.

Team USA fell to Canada, 1-0. Faulk did not record a point, shot and was even. The bronze medal game is tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. and if Martin cannot return to the lineup, the Canes’ defenseman will see the ice again, but hopefully more of it.

Tuomo Ruutu

The winger didn’t see any luck either with Finland this morning as the team fell 2-1 to Sweden and will see the U.S. in the bronze medal game tomorrow.

Ruutu did not record a point, but was on th eice for his line’s lone goal for Finland with Olli Jokinen and Jussi Jokinen (no relation).

Despite no Hurricanes player making it to the gold medal game, the matchup between Finland and the U.S. should provide an interesting one for the bronze.
