Should Justin Faulk Get The Opportunity To Play For The USA In The Olympics?

Justin Faulk was one of the players selected to team USA on January 1st. A month and a half later, Justin Faulk has not played in any games for the USA thus far, and he might not ever get the chance, but should he?

I think Justin Faulk should have played one of the games in the preliminary round. It would have been a good opportunity for him to show what he can bring to the team. Unfortunately, Dan Bylsma and the USA coaching staff opted to keep him out of the lineup.

Now that the USA is undefeated and into the elimination rounds as the number two seed, I don’t think Justin Faulk should play, unless there is an injury to a defenseman.

I would love to see the young defenseman play, but it makes very little sense to throw him into the mix when the USA is undefeated and on a pretty good roll. I doubt that the USA coaching staff would want to mess with the team chemistry, and I don’t blame them.

If Justin Faulk didn’t get into a game during the preliminary rounds, it is very unlikely he will play during the elimination rounds.

Justin Faulk is the only player on the USA roster that has not played in a game, and it was something that was kind of expected. Faulk is the youngest player on the team, and while he is a very good, well-rounded defenseman, he doesn’t stand out out at one specific thing.

I think Justin Faulk is a better all-around player than Cam Fowler, but Cam Fowler gets the nod because he is very talented offensively. Justin Faulk is very well-rounded, but so is Ryan Suter, Ryan McDonagh, and John Carlson. All three of those players are much more experienced than Justin Faulk.

Justin Faulk should not play just for the sake of getting him into a game. USA is trying to win, and forcing a player into the lineup likely would not help the team win.

Though Justin Faulk likely will not play for team USA in the Olympics, he will still benefit from the experience of being on an Olympic roster at 21-years-old. Hopefully he will learn a lot from star defensemen like Ryan Suter and Ryan McDonagh and apply it to his game with the Carolina Hurricanes.

What do you think? Should the USA coaching staff put Justin Faulk into the lineup at this point in the Olympics? Tell us in the poll!
