Jim Rutherford and the Carolina Hurricanes have sent goaltender Justin Peters on a conditioning stint with the Charlotte Checkers. Justin Peters is expected to play on Friday and Saturday as the Checkers take on the Texas Stars.
Justin Peters has had his best season in the NHL to date. The former 2nd round draft pick has a career high seven wins this season with a .919 save percentage and a 2.50 goals against average.
Justin Peters went 4-0-1 and allowed six goals in a five game period back in early November. His great play threw him into trade rumors, and he has been involved in these trade rumors ever since then.
This could be that the Carolina Hurricanes want him to get some action, but it could be that they want to get Justin Peters some action so that other teams can watch him play, which could lead to more trade talks.
Justin Peters’ conditioning stint ends on the NHL trade deadline day which is March 5th. This could be a coincidence, but it is likely that this was planned. Anton Khudobin and Cam Ward will get the net for the Carolina Hurricanes up to the trade deadline, and I expect the Carolina Hurricanes to trade Justin Peters before his conditioning stint is over.
