Charlotte Checkers Recap

The Checkers were finally able to win a game over the Abbottsford Heat as they beat the team in overtime yesterday, 5-4. The win ends a five-game losing streak and three-game losing streak against the Heat this season.

At the end of the first period, the Heat had a 4-1 lead with the Checkers’ lone goal coming from Aaron Palushaj, his 18th of the season.

From there, Charlotte had the games last four goals as Chris Terry scored twice and Justin Shugg scored once in regulation to tie the game. Almost two minutes into the overtime stanza, Brett Sutter scored his sixth goal of the season to earn the Checkers the come-from-behind win in front of the Raleigh crowd.

Terry and Shugg added an assist, while Zach Boychuk and Ryan Murphy had two. Mike Murphy made 28 saves throughout the game to help Charlotte win the game.

However, the Checkers have fallen to 13th place in the Western Conference and eight points out of the final playoff spot. The team plays on Tuesday next against the Norfolk Admirals.
