Mikael Backlund

Mikael Backlund of the Calgary Flames has been rumored around the league for months. The young Swedish centerman has drawn tons of attention because of his offensive abilities and potential.

Mikael Backlund could be an awesome addition as a third-line centerman for the Carolina Hurricanes. He could try to play with fellow Swede Elias Lindholm and Jeff Skinner on that third line.

Though these rumors are very interesting, I do not think Jim Rutherford would be willing to give up the necessary pieces in order to get the trade through. The price for a young centerman with plenty of potential is pretty high, and I don’t think this would be something that Jim Rutherford would do at this point in time. Sometimes shooting for the stars is not the right move.

Mikael Backlund has really elevated his play lately, so the Flames will likely be a little hesitant to trade him.

If the Carolina Hurricanes have to give up valuable pieces for another valuable piece, it may not do much good. While I would love Mikael Backlund on the Carolina Hurricanes, I think that these rumors are FICTION.
