Charlotte Checkers Recap

With less than three minutes left in the Checker game against the Lake Erie Monsters it looked like overtime would be coming with a tie at three, but Aaron Palushaj had other ideas as he scored his 16th of the season to put the team up 4-3. Zach Boychuk scored 26 seconds later to seal the win for the Checkers, 5-3. The goal was also his third of the game.

Cam Ward made 24 saves on 27 shots in his second game with the team. He is now expected to return to the Hurricanes.

The Checkers started the game with the first three goals – one from Mark Flood, two from Boychuk – but three straight goals from the Monsters tied the game until Palushaj scored the game-winner at the end of the third period.

Chris Terry had two assists and Ryan Murphy added one.

The Checkers are currently in a busy stretch of the season returning to action on Tuesday, with more games on Wednesday and Friday. The AHL will not take an Olympic break.
