“#Canes goalie Cam Ward will have a rehab stint with Charlotte. Per Kirk Muller, Ward will join the Checkers this weekend.”
– Mike Maniscalco (@mikemaniscalco)
Cam Ward has not played since December 31st in the Carolina Hurricanes 5-4 comeback win over the Montreal Canadiens. Cam Ward has missed the entire month of January (13 games) with a lower-body injury.
Cam Ward participated in the entirety of Carolina Hurricanes practice on Thursday morning. That is the first time he has done that since late December.
Kirk Muller said that Cam Ward will play a couple of games with the Checkers. If Kirk Muller literally means a “couple” of games, that means that Cam Ward will likely start on Saturday night and on Tuesday night for the Charlotte Checkers. The would make Cam Ward available for games that the Carolina Hurricanes play on February 7th and 8th.
If all goes well for Cam Ward in Charlotte, I wouldn’t be surprised if Cam Ward gets one of the last two games before break.
With Cam Ward neering return, that will bring up the trade rumors surrounding the Carolina Hurricanes goalies. Carolina Hurricanes General Manager Jim Rutherford had an interview with SportsNet 590 today. He talked about the goalie situation.
“We carry three goalie or make a move and trade one”
He also said that the Carolina Hurricanes will not attempt to pass a goalie through waivers in order to send one to Charlotte.
Could the Carolina Hurricanes try to trade a goalie prior to the Olympics? Or will they wait patiently until the trade deadline approaches and then make their decision? It will be an interesting story to follow, and Cardiac Cane will keep you updated every step of the way.
