Plenty of news and updates came from the Carolina Hurricanes practice on Thursday morning.
Cam Ward returned for his first full practice since late December today. Reports indicated that he wanted as much work as possible, and he played well. He and Anton Khudobin got most of the work in net during practice.
According to Chip Alexander, Cam Ward and Anton Khudobin also stayed back after practice to take shots from defensemen.
“Defensemen taking shots after practice. Ward, Khudobin both in the same net. Tag-team approach.”

The big question is – when will Cam Ward get back into the net for the Carolina Hurricanes. Kirk Muller has already said that Cam Ward will not return until after the Olympic Break, and we should expect that to hold true.
Jim Rutherford said that Cam Ward returned too early from his last injury. He said that this time, Cam Ward will not return until he is at 100%. The Carolina Hurricanes will not hurry him back, and he shouldn’t play him before the Olympic Break.
Brett Bellemore remains to be the extra defenseman. Jay Harrison and Mike Komisarek have formed a solid third pairing on defense for the Carolina Hurricanes, and that has made it tough to get Bret Bellemore back in the lineup.
The 25-year-old defenseman has not seen any action since January 13th, and it appears that he won’t get back in the lineup for a while. He was the seventh defenseman today at Carolina Hurricanes practice.
Patrick Dwyer returned to Carolina Hurricanes practice today after recovering from his upper-body injury. He joined Nathan Gerbe and Manny Malhotra on the Carolina Hurricanes third line. I think that third line will be very good for the Carolina Hurricanes, especially since Nathan Gerbe and Manny Malhotra have already played very well together.
