The Carolina Hurricanes Four Game Win Streak Ends With Loss To The Montreal Canadiens

The Carolina Hurricanes brought their four game win streak into Montreal on Tuesday night. Canadiens goalie Carey Price was phenomenal as the Montreal Canadiens defeated the Carolina Hurricanes, 3-0, at the Bell Centre.

Scoring Summary

The Montreal Canadiens got the ball rolling at 6:11 of the first period. Brandon Prust was left uncovered in the slot, and Josh Gorges hit him with a nice pass from the left side of Anton Khudobin. Josh Gorges and Rene Bourque got the assists on the goal that made it 1-0.

Brendan Gallagher made it 2-0 at 18:44 of the first period. The Montreal Canadiens kept pounding away at a puck down low in the crease, and Brendan Gallagher was able to get it past Anton Khudobin. David Desharnais and Max Pacioretty got the assists.

The Montreal Canadiens would make it 3-0 thanks to Max Pacioretty. Following a bad pinch by a Carolina Hurricanes defenseman in the offensive zone, the Canadiens got an odd-man rush. Max Pacioretty was then able to finish on Anton Khudobin. Andrei Markov and Brendan Gallagher got the assists.

Game Analysis

The Carolina Hurricanes were plagued by bad bounces, poor defensive zone coverage and costly mental lapses against the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night.

Carey Price was unbelievable for the Montreal Canadiens. He made game saving saves for the team. The Carolina Hurricanes had a lot of scoring chances, but they were robbed time after time by Canadian Olympian, Carey Price.

The Carolina Hurricanes made a few mistakes that ended up being costly against the Montreal Canadiens. Brandon Prust was left completely uncovered in the slot, and he was able to score the first goal easily. Max Pacioretty scored the game’s third goal after a bad pinch from a Canes defenseman led to an odd-man rush. They also had a few bad bounces. The Carolina Hurricanes hit the post numerous times against the Habs.

Anton Khudobin did not have a great game, but he was left out to dry many times, and he was the reason this wasn’t a 5-0 game. Anton Khudobin can’t be blamed for the loss. The offense could not get the puck past Carey Price, so Khudobin had no goal scoring in front of him.

Khudobin has lost four game this season. Three of them were when the Carolina Hurricanes have gotten shutout. The other was when he came off the bench to relieve Justin Peters of his duties against the Tampa Bay Lightning on January 19th when the Canes were trailing 3-0. When the Carolina Hurricanes give Anton Khudobin goal support, they win.

Another problem for the Carolina Hurricanes was getting shots on net. They got 36 shots on Carey Price, but the Montreal Canadians blocked 27 shots.

The Carolina Hurricanes played their fifth game in seven nights, so this wasn’t a terrible effort, but it was not good enough to beat the Montreal Canadiens who were desperate for a win after losing four straight.

The Carolina Hurricanes played well offensively, and their power play had a decent night. The Carolina Hurricanes just need to take the good things from this game and continue on. They can’t hang their head on this loss, because they will take on the Blues on Friday night on home ice.

The Carolina Hurricanes will get a couple of days off before they take on the tough St. Louis Blues on home ice on Friday night.
