The trade rumors haven’t settled down for the Carolina Hurricanes as Darren Dreger and Bob McKenzie had another report on Insider Trading regarding Jim Rutherford‘s efforts to get deals done.
Rutherford sent a league-wide email saying Ruutu is available, as well as Jiri Tlusty, Riley Nash, Drayson Bowman and Brett Bellemore.

Dreger also had this to say about Tuomo Ruutu:
Jim Rutherford met with Ruutu this week and told him he’s going to start pushing that trade now. Ruutu has a no-trade clause but he said he’d do his best to work with Carolina.

We’ve been hearing for some time now that Rutherford is trying to move Tuomo Ruutu and Jiri Tlusty, so that comes as no surprise, but this is the first time rumors have popped up regarding Riley Nash, Drayson Bowman and Brett Bellemore.
It’s assumed that Rutherford is trying to pick up a top-six forward and a third-line center, which would make sense with Nash on the trade market, but I’m not too sure if any of those players are going to bring in a player the G.M. is looking for.
Ruutu makes too much money, Tlusty is having a bad season and Bowman and Nash are bottom-sixers that every team has on its roster.
As for Bellemore, trading him doesn’t make sense. He’s been a valuable player in the ‘D’ corps, playing over 20 minutes a night sometimes. I also doubt he would have high trade value considering little time he’s spent in the NHL. Keeping the defenseman is probably more valuable to keep for the Hurricanes than his trade value.
It’s nice to see that Rutherford is attempting to improve the team, but I’m not sure if he has the right pieces to make that improvement.
