The Carolina Hurricanes have not been involved with a lot of trade rumors lately, but that has come to an end today after Darren Dreger reported on Twitter that the Carolina Hurricanes are still looking to trade Tuomo Ruutu.
“Tuomo Ruutu’s name has again surfaced as a trade target. Canes forward might draw some interest as teams approach the Olympic break.”
-Darren Dreger (@DarrenDreger)
This should not come as too much of a surprise. Tuomo Ruutu started to play very well after the initial trade rumors, but his level of play has gone down significantly. He has plummeted from the first line to the fourth line in less than one week.
Tuomo Ruutu was involved in many trade talks about a month ago, but those talks went away when he started to play well on the top line with Eric Staal and Jeff Skinner. Alex Semin was then moved up to the first line, which subsequently moved Tuomo Ruutu down the lineup.
During Eric Staal’s injury, Ruutu played some first line time with Jeff Skinner and Alex Semin, but that did not go well for the Carolina Hurricanes, so they have now put Tuomo Ruutu on the fourth line with Riley Nash and Drayson Bowman.
The Carolina Hurricanes would need a team that has the cap room for Tuomo Ruutu, and a team that the Finnish forward would waive his no trade clause for. It would likely have to be a playoff contender.
The Vancouver Canucks are a team that was reportedly interested in Tuomo Ruutu a month ago. They are a playoff team, and it would make sense for that to be a possible destination for Ruutu, if the Carolina Hurricanes trade him.
The Colorado Avalanche, Ottawa Senators and Dallas Stars are three other teams that are looking to make the playoffs and have the cap space for a player like Tuomo Ruutu.
Tuomo Ruutu is being shopped around once again. Do you think the Carolina Hurricanes will trade him? Tell us in the poll.
