Sunday Carolina Hurricanes Report

Carolina Hurricanes News

  • Anton Khudobin led the Hurricanes to a win over the New York Islanders last night. Read the recap here.
  • First half review for the Canes (Cardiac Cane)
  • The Hurricanes play the Nashville Predators tonight. A preview will be posted later this morning.
  • Byan Mcwilliam looks at how Jeff Skinner has been a bright spot on a low Hurricane team (The Hockey News)

My Opinion: Jeff Skinner has definitely been the best Hurricane this season, there’s no doubt about that, but the Canes’ season isn’t as bad as Bryan makes it out to be. Yes, they’ve been inconsistent, but they’ve also exceeded expectations thus far.

Bryan makes note that Eric Staal and Anton Khudobin are having great seasons, but what about Justin Peters or Ron Hainsey and Nathan Gerbe, who were castoffs by their ex-teams, but have impressed in Raleigh?

Then he points out the overpayment of Alexander Semin, Jordan Staal and Tuomo Ruutu. They may all be overpaid, but Semin is having a decent season and Jordan Staal is stronger than last year. Ruutu makes sense, but has been better of late.

I’ll agree the Hurricanes haven’t been the best team in the NHL or anywhere near that, but Bryan makes them out to be much worse than they are.
