The Carolina Hurricanes took on the New York Islanders on Saturday night in Uniondale, New York. Anton Khuodbin was marvelous all night, and the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the New York Islanders 3-2.
Manny Malhotra started the scoring at 6:57 of the second period. Patrick Dwyer beat out an icing call, and he made a nice pass to Malhotra who ripped it by Evgeni Nabokov in the slot. Patrick Dwyer got the assist.
The New York Islanders would strike back at 7:41 of period two. Drayson Bowman made a costly turnover in his own end, and John Tavares would end up putting it past a sprawling Anton Khudobin. Thomas Vanek got the only assist.
Jordan Staal gave the Carolina Hurricanes a 2-1 lead at 13:12 of the second period. Patrick Dwyer set him up all alone in the slot, and Jordan sent a beautiful wrist shot past Nabokov. Patrick Dwyer and Nathan Gerbe got the assists.
Brett Sutter’s second goal in the NHL gave the Carolina Hurricanes a 3-1 lead at 14:09 of the second period. Jeff Skinner took the original shot on an odd man rush. Brett Sutter was there on the door step to put in a rebound goal. Jeff Skinner and Andrej Sekera got the assists.
Thomas Vanek made it interesting with 24.2 seconds left in the third period. He deflected a shot from Andrew MacDonald past Anton Khudobin to cut the Carolina Hurricanes lead to 3-2. Andrew MacDonald and Ryan Strome got the assists.
The Carolina Hurricanes played a strong game on Long Island as they defeated the New York Islanders 3-2 on Saturday night. Anton Khudobin was absolutely stellar, and he carried the team to victory.
Anton Khudobin was unbelievable against the New York Islanders. He was a brick wall all night, and he continues to be very impressive. He is now 4-0-0 on the season, and he has allowed only ten goals in five games played.
Eric Staal left in the second period with a seemingly minor lower-body injury, but all the other centers on the Carolina Hurricanes played very well. Jordan Staal, Brett Sutter and Manny Malhotra all scored, and they all played very well on Saturday night.
Without Eric Staal, Jeff Skinner and Alex Semin both played pretty well. They were still able to produce some high quality scoring chances against the New York Islanders.
Ron Hainsey and Brett Bellemore played very well. They both played very tough and solid games. The same can be said about Justin Faulk and Andrej Sekera. The Carolina Hurricanes top defensive paring played very well against the top New York Islanders players.
The Carolina Hurricanes have now won three consecutive games. That ties a season high for the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Carolina Hurricanes will play the Nashville Predators on home ice tomorrow in Raleigh.
