The Carolina Hurricanes have recalled forward Zach Boychuk from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League. This will be Boychuk’s second stint with the Carolina Hurricanes this year after playing one game for Carolina in early December.
The Carolina Hurricanes have not yet made an official announcement, but he was at the Carolina Hurricanes practice today. Zach Boychuk Tweeted a few things over the past three days indicating that he was recalled by the Carolina Hurricanes.
Zach Boychuk said via twitter that he was contacted by Ron Francis on Christmas Eve. He was told he would be called up to the Carolina Hurricanes. He could be in the lineup Friday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The question is, why did the Carolina Hurricanes recall Zach Boychuk? The Carolina Hurricanes have 13 forwards on the roster already, and throwing Zach Boychuk in the mix makes it 14. It’s also suspicious that the Carolina Hurricanes have not made an official announcement on Boychuk’s promotion to the Carolina Hurricanes, especially since the decision was, apparently, made on Christmas Eve.
It is possible someone could come out of the lineup for Zach Boychuk, but it is also possible that a trade may be in the works involving a forward on the Carolina Hurricanes. It has to be one of those two things, because the Carolina Hurricanes would not recall Zach Boychuk just to have him sit in the press box, it wouldn’t make any sense.
Could there be a trade in the works? A lot of signs point to that being the case. For now, we know that Zach Boychuk is back with the Carolina Hurricanes.
