The Carolina Hurricanes made a move in an effort to solve the goaltending problem by sending Anton Khudobin to the Charlotte Checkers for a conditioning stint today.
Khudobin was taken off of injured reserve and had to agree to the conditioning stint.
The Russian netminder was injured on Oct. 13 and was expected back in the lineup much earlier than now. He has only played three games with the Hurricanes this season earning a 2-0-0 record.
The move buys the Canes some time on the goaltending decision and a chance to see Khudobin in some game action before making that decision.
The Checkers play on Sunday, so expect Khudobin to be in net for that game.
Whether the Hurricanes decide to trade Khudobin or Justin Peters, this is the right move to make. Khudobin will get a chance to show off his skills with the Checkers, which could be an important tool if the Canes decide to trade him.
If Carolina decides to trade Peters instead, then Khudobin will get a few games with the Checkers to get back to regular game-form instead of with the Hurricanes.
The Hurricanes also announced that Jay Harrison was placed on injured reserve with a concussion. The spot was made available with Khudobin coming back from injury.
