Charlotte Checkers Recap
The Checkers could not earn a second win against the Rockford Ice Hogs last night as they fell 5-3. A three-goal second period from the Ice Hogs put the game out of reach for Charlotte.
At the end of the first, the game was tied at one with the Checkers goal coming from Brendan Woods, but with less than four minutes left in the second period, the Ice Hogs had gained a 4-1 lead. Mark Flood scored his eighth of the year before the period was over.
The third period didn’t have any scoring until the last 15 seconds when Rockford’s Klas Dahlbeck scored on an empty net, before recent tryout-signee, A.J. Jenks scored for the Checkers.
Mike Murphy made his return in net, earning 22 saves on 26 shots. No members of the first line scored for Charlotte, but Zach Boychuk, the team’s leading scorer, was playing his third game in as many days.
The Checkers play the San Antonio Rampage next on Tuesday night.
