Jamie McGinn of the Colorado Avalanche is a hard nosed two way forward that has the ability to be a good scorer. He has also been involved in trade rumors as of late. Would the Carolina Hurricanes be a good fit for McGinn? I think so.
Jamie McGinn is not flashy, but he makes the most of the abilities he possesses. Jamie McGinn, brother of Carolina Hurricanes prospect Brock McGinn, brings a lot of energy and passion to every shift, and is one of those players with the ability to turn the momentum of a game around. He cycles the puck really well which is important to the kind of offense that the Carolina Hurricanes play. He is a good two-way forward. He posses a lot of offensive upside, but he plays the penalty kill as well. Jamie McGinn also has pretty good size at 6’1″ and 210 lbs.
The 25-year-old seems like a player that can fit in anywhere in the Canes lineup. He plays a similar game of Jordan Staal, so they could be perfect together. I also see him as some one who could play with Jeff Skinner. McGinn brings energy, but he also brings a great offense and defense. Skinner brings a lot of energy as well, and everyone knows how good his offense is. I think McGinn is the type of player that can fit in almost all areas, along with power play and penalty kill. McGinn’s only getting paid $680,000 this year, which is a great value for what you’re getting.
Of course, what the Carolina Hurricanes send to Colorado is a a big question. I think Jiri Tlusty could be thrown into the discussion. Rumors have been that the Avs want a defenseman or veteran checking forward in return for McGinn. Tim Gleason falls in the defenseman category, and Colorado has the cap room. Whether or not Gleason would approve is a different story. If it’s at the right price, Jamie McGinn could be a good option if the Carolina Hurricanes are looking for a trade to shake things up.
