We got some injury updates this morning from the Carolina Hurricanes morning skate. First off, Andrej Sekera will be out of the lineup tonight against the New Jersey Devils. He is out with an upper-body injury that he suffered Wednesday night in New Jersey. There was no apparent injury to Sekera in that game, but something obviously happened to make Sekera unavailable for tonight’s game. Sekera will get an MRI later today. Sekera has been the Carolina Hurricanes best defenseman this year. He was the best addition of the off-season, so hopefully this is a minor injury that won’t keep him side-lined very long.
Tim Gleason is also out. He has missed time with a lower-body injury. Gleason is expected to miss a week of action. Gleason may very well be on another team in one week, with all the trade rumors swirling around.
There is some good news on the injury front. Alex Semin and Anton Khudobin both skated prior to this morning’s morning skate. Semin, who has been out with a concussion since October 16th, will miss his 6th game since his injury tonight against the Devils. He is skating, so that is very good news for him and the Carolina Hurricanes. Anton Khudobin has really struggled to get back to team practices. He was skating about a week ago, but he got shots in his injured ankle from team doctors, which made him unable to practice for a few days. When Anton Khudobin does return, that will leave the Carolina Hurricanes with a tough decision on the goaltenders. With 3 goalies on the team, Jim Rutherford will have to trade one, keep three on the NHL roster, or send Justin Peters to the AHL. Sending Peters to the AHL would run the risk another team picking him up off waivers.
