It has been a big week for Cam Ward. Since his return from injury on Monday, Nov. 18, he has proven that he is able to be back an elite level, and I’m not the only one that thinks that. He gotten plenty of love through out the league. He has also been in talks for the Olympics, but probably not in the way you’d expect.
On Sunday afternoon, Cam Ward made a possible save of the year with his beautiful diving stick save on Ottawa Senators forward Colin Greening. Following that beautiful save, he was interviewed by NHL.com’s Dan Rosen.
Dan Rosen does a “five questions’ series, in which he interviews one of the hottest players in the league. This time, he interviewed Cam Ward.
In the interview he mentioned that his main goal is to get the Carolina Hurricanes back into the Stanley Cup playoffs. He also said that he hopes to get his way onto team Canada.
Calgary Flames executive, and one of the people that picks Team USA for the Olympics, Brian Burke said that he would pick Cam Ward for team Canada’s goalie. Burke sent a lot of praise in Ward’s direction in an interview with Eric Francis of the Calgary Sun. When he was asked who he would pick, this is what he said:
“As of this week, I’d pick Cam Ward, He’s out of his mind right now — you can’t beat him. Everybody’s worried about Canada’s goalies right now, but I’m not. I think they have three guys who could play. You just have to figure out who’s on at that moment.”
The possible save of the year, Dan Rosen’s interview, and Brian Burke’s comments are all piling together to make the perfect storm for Cam Ward’s publicity. Now, if he can consistently win, that will only get bigger.
All of this attention is much deserved. Cam Ward is one of the top goaltenders in the NHL when he is hot, and right now, he is on fire.
