Carolina Hurricanes News
- Yesterday’s blog on what the Hurricanes should do with Justin Peters can be found here.
- The Canes play the Boston Bruins tonight at 7 p.m. A preview will be posted later this morning.
- Corey Sznajder looks at the game against the Blues by the numbers (Shutdown Line)
- Eklund reported last night that the Hurricanes are talking to the Maple Leafs about John Michael Liles (Hockey Buzz)
My Opinion: Darren Dreger also reported this rumor last week. Now Eklund is saying the same thing, and while Eklund has a reputation of not being correct, where there’s smoke, there’s usually fire.
As for the Canes adding Liles, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. He’s signed through the 2015-16 season to a $3.87 million contract and hasn’t looked good with the Maple Leafs. Also, the Hurricanes defense has looked fine and now has eight NHL defensemen, so adding another doesn’t add up.
The only way I see a trade like this one going through is if Tuomo Ruutu is included in the deal, but even then it’s not a trade the Hurricanes need to make. Ruutu would still bring more to the team in helping to score than Liles could, even if he is an offensive-defenseman.
