Carolina Hurricanes News
- The Hurricanes fell to the St. Louis Blues last night, 4-2. Read the recap here.
- Three stars in the Canes home stand from this past week (Cardiac Cane)
- Corey Sznajder looks at the game against the Ducks by the numbers (Shutdown Line)
- Mark Jones reports from an Adrian Dater tweet that the Canes are trying to trade Tuomo Ruutu (Bleacher Report)
My Opinion: Given Ruutu’s contract and current production, this isn’t surprising at all. Ruutu hasn’t looked good and with Justin Faulk, Anton Khudobin and Jiri Tlusty needing new contracts at the end of the year, it makes sense that GM Jim Rutherford would want to shave nearly $5 million from the salary cap.
Now whether the Lightning would want him or not is the question. They certainly lost offense with Steven Stamkos‘ injury, but $4.75 million is a lot. If the Canes do end up trading Ruutu, I would bet they would have to retain salary, similar to the Jussi Jokinen trade.
Charlotte Checkers Recap
Things are only getting worse for the Checkers as they lost again last night to the Toronto Marlies, 4-1. Similar problems arose as the offense couldn’t score and the goaltending wasn’t adequate.
John Muse was the culprit in net this time, while Zach Boychuk scored the lone goal.
The team has now lost six in a row and have yet to win in November, but they’ll get a chance again against the Marlies Tuesday.
