My Opinion: The deal has definitely been better for the Hurricanes, but let’s take some things into perspective. The Buffalo Sabres are currently in a rebuilding phase – something Darcy Regier realized – so he traded one of his better defensemen that would have been past his prime by the time the Sabres were good again for future investments.
In return, he received Jamie McBain, who was lost in Raleigh, but hasn’t looked much better in Buffalo and a second-round pick, which is a question mark right now.
So while this deal looks great for the Hurricanes, it was something Regier had to do to help the future of the Sabres and shouldn’t be held against him too much.
Charlotte Checkers Recap
Things didn’t get any better for the Checkers last night, as they fell to the Hershey Bears, 5-3. Adam Brace, Elias Lindholm and Michal Jordan all scored for the Checkers, while Rick Dipietro continued to struggle, allowing all five goals.
The Checkers will have a chance to get some revenge as they play the Bears again tonight at 7 p.m.
