Monday Hurricanes Report

Carolina Hurricanes News

  • Brett Finger lists his top five Hurricanes players of all time. The list can be found here.
  • Cam Ward and Tim Gleason both skated at practice yesterday (Cardiac Cane)
  • Check out our new organizational depth chart page here.
  • Mark Jones looks at what might be causing the Canes problems in the shootout (Bleacher Report)

My Opinion: Mark has some good answers in this article. Most of the top Canes forwards aren’t skilled forwards who score by either passing or getting gritty goals. It also doesn’t help that one of the best shootout shooters in recent history, Jussi Jokinen, is no longer on the team.

I’m surprised Alexander Semin and Nathan Gerbe aren’t better in the shootout as those two are two of the more shifty, speedier players on the roster.

None of the Canes goalies are great on the shootout as Mark points out. That could be the problem of a lack of practicing the skills competition, which Kirk Muller may have noticed as he ended practice yesterday with a shootout competition.

However, there are some good news with Chris Terry and other youngsters. Terry scored a nice goal last night in the shootout and hopefully for the other team other young players can help out in the shootout.
