- Ansel Halle wonders if Nathan Gerbe could make the U.S. Olympic team (Too Many Men on the Site)
My Opinion: Gerbe started out the season on a tear, but has slowed down lately and that surely won’t help his chances. Looking at the possibilities for the Americans, there’s plenty of depth at wing and not a whole lot at center, which isn’t going to help him at all.
However, most of the American wingers are bigger, slower guys that were used effectively in the last Olympics in Vancouver. But unlike the Vancouver games, these Olympics will be played on a bigger ice sheet.
That means the bigger wingers that play a rugged style of play can’t be used to the best of their ability. It’s a small chance, but Gerbe could be a skilled, faster option for U.S.
