At the beginning of the season, people did not expect much from the Lightning – they had the same defensive corps and inexperienced goaltending duo that lead to their demise last season – but the team has gotten off to a quick start and sit third in the Atlantic.

A large part of that success is due to goalie Ben Bishop, who has seven wins this season. Meanwhile, Steven Stamkos is producing like normal with nine goals this season.

The Lightning lost their last game, on Tuesday, to the New Jersey Devils and have been resting since then like the Hurricanes.

For the Canes, stopping the first line will be of the utmost importance. There is a ton of skill on the line and most of the scoring comes from Stamkos and Martin St. Louis. With the last line-change, expect Kirk Muller to have Jordan Staal out against the first line on most shifts.

The team signed veteran Manny Malhotra yesterday and has already joined the team and will be in the lineup tonight.

Over the last few games, the forwards have not been able to score, similar to when Cam Ward was injured last year. They need to get out of the slump if they want to win. Bishop is a tough goalie to beat, but it can be done. It’s time the team played well in front of a goalie that isn’t Ward or Khudobin.

A recap will be posted after the game.

Topics: Carolina Hurricanes, Jordan Staal, Manny Malhotra
