Komisarek’s only played in two games for the Hurricanes, but he’s been an excellent option as a seventh defenseman, especially at $700,000 a year.

Some players are cold and rusty after spending so much time out of regular game-play, but Komisarek has looked fine when called upon.

Last night, the former Maple Leaf played 18 minutes, mainly on the penalty kill and allowed Hainsey to spend more time on the power play, something the Canes have been struggling with through the first nine games.

It’s possible with Gleason returning that Komisarek will move back to being a seventh defenseman, but he’s showed before that he can do just fine in that role.
