When Gerbe was signed, it wasn’t even a sure thing he would make the Hurricanes team. He had just come off a bad year in Buffalo and signed a two-year contract to come to Carolina.

But the 26-year-old impressed in preseason and training camp and earned a spot with the Canes before the season started.

So far Gerbe has brought depth scoring that the Hurricanes completely lacked last year scoring six points in nine games. Gerbe has also been a helpful hand on the power-play.

As if his production wasn’t enough, Gerbe is only making $550,000 this season, which could be the biggest steal of free agency by the end of this season.
