Sunday Hurricanes Report

Carolina Hurricanes News

  • The Canes beat the Islanders last night, 4-3. The recap can be found here.
  • The Hurricanes and Islanders are still getting used to being division rivals (Raleigh News & Observer)
  • Corey Sznajder looks at how to fit Tim Gleason back in the lineup (Shutdown Line)

My Opinion: Corey wrote this blog before the game last night, so he had Jay Harrison sitting instead of Brett Bellemore. With the lineup switches last night, I would imagine Bellemore remains on the bench, while Mike Komisarek will join him.

Since Komisarek and Harrison are similar defensemen we could see some switching between the two to give one player rest every now and then.

It’s also possible that Ryan Murphy will be sent to the Checkers at some point. He’s playing excellent right now, but that may not keep up all season. We have to remember he’s only 20-years-old and in his first NHL season.

Also, Murphy does not have to pass through waivers to go to the AHL, while Bellemore does.

Charlotte Checkers Recap

The Checkers played their first game at home this season last night, losing to the Iowa Wild by a score of 3-1. The Wild scored the first two goals before Chris Terry scored the lone Checker goal, but the team could not make a comeback.
