  • The Hurricanes play the New York Islanders tonight at 7 p.m. ET. A preview will be posted later today.
  • The Charlotte Checkers play their first game at home tonight playing the Iowa Wild (Checkers Website)
  • Corey Sznajder looks at the Maple Leafs game by the numbers (Shutdown Line)
  • Justin Faulk and Andrej Sekera have become a top pairing for the Hurricanes (Raleigh News & Observer)

My Opinion:  Faulk and Sekera have definitely been seeing the best competition of this Hurricanes team and it makes sense. The two are clearly the best defensemen on the team now and are both great shutdown d-men.

Right now, they’re getting over 20 minutes a games and I think they can continue at that number over the course of the season. They’ve done it in the past and the Hurricanes could use that type of production.

However, with Tim Gleason returning, it gives the team another shut-down guy. He may not play over 20 minutes a game, but Gleason will be able to play on the penalty-kill and give the duo some rest here and there.
