After going through the preseason with a banged up roster, the Hurricanes are nearly back to a healthy lineup with Tuomo Ruutu and Tim Gleason being the only players that are expected to play this season, that have yet to recover from an injury.

Alexander Semin has not been named official for the game, but has competed in the past two days of practice.

No starter has been confirmed for either side, but you can bet it will be a battle between Cam Ward and Jimmy Howard.

The Red Wings have already played a game this season, so if the visiting team is controlling most of the play early on, don’t be surprised. The Hurricanes don’t have their game-day legs yet, while Detroit does. But the Canes will get better acclimated as the game goes on.

Even though, Hurricanes haven’t seen much of the Red Wings lately, everyone knows the big name on the team is Pavel Datsyuk. Joining him will be a balanced attack and a formidable defense.

In its last game, Detroit beat the Buffalo Sabres by a 2-1 score. Mikael Samuelsson and Datsyuk scored goals, while Howard made 12 saves.

This first game will be a real test for the Hurricanes and it should show where the team is at heading into the season.
