Analysis: The Hurricanes will have a busy month of October starting the month with a stretch of nine games in 16 days. The Canes’ legs will have to be ready at the start of the season if they want to play well in the early going.
The team also has four consecutive games on the road between October 17 and 24. Luckily for the Canes, they will have four days off between the Islanders game and Wild game, which will allow the team to travel and get accustomed to the different time zone.
But the next day, they’ll have to travel to Colorado and play in the rough Denver atmosphere.
If the Hurricanes get off to a bad start in October, some good news is that almost half of their games are against Western Conference teams. Every game counts, but the ones in conference and division mean much more to the standings.
As for the competition, the Canes play some tough teams including the Stanley Cup champion Blackhawks, two games against the Penguins and games against playoff contenders including the Red Wings, Flyers and Maple Leafs.
October will be a busy month for the Hurricanes, but if the team is able to get off to a strong start, it will help later in the season near playoff time.
