Carolina Hurricanes Place Matt Corrente On Waivers

It seems Matt Corrente has not won a spot with the Carolina Hurricanes, despite making it past the Monday roster deadline, as the team put the defenseman on waivers today.

Corrente was signed this summer and surprised many by sticking with the team through multiple cuts.

The former New Jersey Devil can be claimed by any team over the next 24 hours. At noon tomorrow, we’ll find out if Corrente was claimed or not. I believe it’s unlikely any team puts a claim on Corrente.

The waive also gives the Canes an additional $550,000 in salary cap space. It’s likely this move was made to recall Ryan Murphy, who didn’t even bother traveling to Charlotte, sometime today or tomorrow.
