The Carolina Hurricanes will play their fifth preseason game and first in two days tonight against the Columbus Blue Jackets at 7 p.m. ET. The game will not be televised locally, but can be listened to at 99.9 FM The Fan or by this link.

The Canes and Jackets played earlier this preseason in the Hurricanes first exhibition game. The Blue Jackets won 5-4.

Blue Jackets Lineup

Defense: Johnson, Merlat, Murray, Nikitin, Prout, Wisniewski, Tyutin

Goalies: Bobrovsky, Smith

Both teams are playing lineups close to the possible opening night rosters, so expect a good game out of this one.

Good news for Brett Sutter and Radek Dvorak as both are still being looked at by Kirk Muller as they will play in tonight’s game. Unfortunately for Matt Corrente and Zac Dalpe they were not picked by Muller and the coaching staff to play.

Jeff Skinner was originally supposed to play in tonight’s game, but is apparently injured and will not play tomorrow either, ending his preseason. Jeremy Welsh was chosen to replace Skinner in the lineup.

The Hurricanes need to build on their last exhibition game against the Canadiens, which they won 3-1. There were plenty of reasons to be concerned about the Canes play on the ice but a strong game, especially from Cam Ward, would build more confidence.

The Blue Jackets are playing a strong lineup on offense and defense, but are missing star player Marian Gaborik who is scratched for tonight’s game.
