Carolina Hurricanes Place Six Players On Waivers

The Carolina Hurricanes placed six players on waivers today with the intention of sending them down to the Charlotte Checkers.

Nicolas Blanchard, Zach Boychuk, Michal Jordan, Aaron Palushaj, Justin Peters and Jared Staal were the six players put on waivers.

The group will clear waivers tomorrow at noon, but can be claimed by any team in those 24 hours.

I don’t believe any of the players will be claimed, but Boychuk and Palushaj have been claimed before and some of those players still have potential to be NHL players, so anything’s possible.

Of the six players, this probably hurts Boychuk the most. This season could be his last chances to make the team and it seemed he was motivated to have that happen, but apparently the coaching staff did not believe he played well enough to make the team.

I also believed that Palushaj would have a better chance at making the team and thought he would stick around longer in preseason.

Staal and Blanchard stood outside chances of making the team on a fourth line role, but did not do enough to make the team and will rejoin the Checkers.

Jordan is still not ready for the NHL, but could be an injury callup this season.

Peters was not going to make the team with Anton Khudobin signed, so his waiving is the least surprising.
