Carolina Hurricanes Cut 12 From Training Camp

The Carolina Hurricanes made their biggest cut at training camp, so far, cutting 12 players from the roster.

Included are:

Forwards: Victor Rask, Justin Shugg, Brody Sutter, Brendan Woods and Brock McGinn (sent back to junior club)

Defensemen: Danny Biega, Mark Flood, Austin Levi, Keegan Lowe, Rasmus Rissanen and Beau Schmitz

Goaltender: Mike Murphy

Every player, except for McGinn was sent to the Charlotte Checkers.

Not a ton of surprises, but I would have thought Victor Rask would have an opportunity to show what he can do in a preseason game, but ultimately not make the team.

However, on defense I would have thought Flood would last a little longer as he is expected to fill Marc-Andre Gragnani as the veteran call-up on defense. Add in that Matt Corrente is still in camp and it becomes even more surprising.

As for the notable players that made it past the first cut, they include Chris Terry, Brett Sutter and Nicolas Blanchard. The trio of forwards are on the outside looking in at roster spots, but they do have a chance at making the team.

The Canes will now move onto their first preseason game, which is tonight at 7 p.m. ET. The recap will be in the Hurricanes Report tomorrow morning.

More cuts will be coming in the next couple of weeks, so check back for news on roster cuts.
