  • Corey Sznajder previews the Philadelphia Flyers in his Metropolitan Division preview (Shutdown Line)
  • The Canadian Press lists Justin Faulk as just missed in their projections for the U.S. Olympic team (Canadian Press)
  • The Hockey News predicts that the Canes will finish seventh in the Metropolitan Division (The Hockey News)

My Opinion: Unfortunately for Canes fans, THN may be right with a seventh-place prediction. The Hurricanes are better this season, but the Metropolitan Division is so tough.

I believe the Penguins, Flyers and Rangers are all locks to finish ahead of the Canes. The Blue Jackets, Islanders and Capitals are likely to be in front of the Canes, but Carolina will have a chance to finish in front of them. The Devils are the only team, I’m positive the Canes will finish in front of.

As far as Khudobin being the x-factor, it’s a little bit of a reach, but there’s a chance he could be it. If Cam Ward falters or is injured, Khudobin will be the go-to and should make a better impact than Justin Peters or Dan Ellis.

If I had to pick though, I would have chosen Jeff Skinner or Elias Lindholm as the x-factors, as it will be up to them to provide secondary scoring.
