My Opinion: I’m not a huge fan of adding Morrow to this Canes team. If the Hurricanes want to add a second line forward, I believe the better option would be Damien Brunner, who is younger and faster than Morrow.
I’m also not surprised that Morrow put up better numbers with the Penguins. He may not have played with Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin, but he didn’t have to go up against other team’s top shut-down defensemen as he did with the Stars.
I also believe that the Canes would be smarter to use one of their younger players in a bottom-six role than an aging Morrow. The younger forwards can help in the future, while Morrow may be a one-year experiment.
Right now, I see Morrow at the point of his career as a fourth liner similar to how Matt sees him. Yes, he’s a leader and a scorer in the past, but he does not bring as much to the table as the money may warrant for him.
