Saturday Hurricanes Report

Carolina Hurricanes News

  • Elias Lindholm was named the top prospect in the Canes system (Cardiac Cane)

The Final List:

1. Elias Lindholm

2. Ryan Murphy

3. Victor Rask

4. Phil Di Giuseppe

5. Danny Biega

6. Zac Dalpe

7. Austin Levi

8. Keegan Lowe

9. Brock McGinn

10. Jeremy Welsh

Notes: Riley Nash was not included as a prospect because he has played 37 games in the NHL and has likely locked a spot. List was done before Sergey Tolchinsky signed with the Canes.

  • Corey Sznajder ranked Jordan Staal as the top player under 25 on the Hurricanes team (Shutdown Line)
  • It was the Hurricanes’ turn in NHL’s 30 in 30 (NHL.com)

My Opinion: Health will be a major change from last year. The team was decimated by injuries and if they’re healthy again this year, the Canes may surprise some people.

The lineup predictions is obviously filling the best players in the top spots. It’s unlikely Lindholm plays the second-line wing and Tuomo Ruutu will most likely be with Jordan Staal.

I found the top 10 list of prospects extremely strange. The top three is obvious, but Collin Olson is not garnering that much attention to be ranked fifth. Cardiac Canes’ top 10 list and even Hockey Future’s list is much different than the NHL’s.

  • The Edmonton Oilers are surprisingly planning to release Toni Rajala, who scored at a point-per-game in the AHL last season (Oil On Whyte)
