Background: Played in his native Sweden in the Swedish Elite League for two years. Drafted by the Hurricanes in the first round. Signed ELC in July.

The fifth overall pick in this year’s draft took the top spot in the Hurricanes’ prospect pool.

Elias Lindholm is a center that can play defense and score goals. Over the course of his career, he could turn into a Henrik Zetterberg-like player with his defensive acumen and ability to score.

The Swede also has the most potential and most likely to reach it of the players in the Hurricanes’ system.

But next year, Lindholm should slot in the third-line center spot on the Canes roster. It’s likely that Jeff Skinner will be one of his wingers and if that’s the case, Lindholm will be in a scoring role for the season.

There’s little chance Lindholm will return to Sweden or play in the AHL after signing his ELC. He’s only 18-years-old, but Lindholm will start his future with the Hurricanes this season.
