My Opinion: I called for more gritty players for the Canes roster at the start of free agency because it was obvious the bottom six was soft. I wanted players that could play a mean game, but also could play a regular shift.
Corey compares team toughness to the Edmonton Oilers who added a host of fighters to add team toughness. It’s obvious why the Oilers failed. A team should have only one fighter at maximum, which the Oilers did not do. It was a good choice for the Hurricanes to do nothing similar.
Corey makes a point that adding players that only fight is not the way to win games. That much I agree with. But there’s also a need for players that can play a gritty game, especially to a team that is soft up front.
