- Yesterday’s preview of the New York Islanders can be found here
- Trevor Carrick and Justin Shugg were named 17th and 16th on Corey Sznajder’s Top 25 Under 25 (Shutdown Line)
- Andrew Luistro looks at how a single game in the 2002 season turned things around for the Canes and Atlanta Thrashers (Sun Belt Hockey)
- Luistro also looks at which players could make the Olympics in 2014 (The Hockey Writers)
My Opinion: I agree with pretty much all of what Andrew wrote. The skilled players on the team will play for the less-hockey developed countries such as Andrej Sekera and Tuomo Ruutu, while Eric Staal will likely be the only candidate for Canada.
Justin Faulk will have a difficult time making the U.S. team, but he’s impressed before and a good start to the season could earn him a spot on the team.
My Opinion: Although it doesn’t look like the Canes will sign LaRose, I wouldn’t totally rule it out.
LaRose is having trouble finding a team, as most free agents are, while the Canes have an opening on the third line. They may use a younger player to fill the role, but could look at the veteran LaRose for a bounce-back season.
