Wednesday Hurricanes Report

Carolina Hurricanes News

  • Yesterday’s second part of the offseason grades can be found here
  • The Charlotte Checkers signed two players to AHL contracts yesterday (Checkers’ Website)
  • Corey Sznajder ranked goalie Daniel Altshuller 22nd in his Top 25 Under 25 (Shutdown Line)
  • Matt Karash considers Brock McGinn as an option on the Canes’ roster (HockeyBuzz)

My Opinion: McGinn plays a lot like his older brothers, hard on the puck and a decent power-forward. It’s definitely something the Canes need, but at 19-years-old, I would be a little timid to play McGinn.

He’ll most likely be thrown into a defensive role and have to go against men that have been training and conditioning for the marathon of an 82-game season.

I would much rather see McGinn experience some AHL time before making the transition to the NHL. On the other hand if he goes out and proves himself in training camp and preseason, maybe he should be on the Hurricanes roster come October.
