- Randy Holt considers the idea of trading for Marc Staal (Rant Sports)
My Opinion: Adding the fourth Staal brother would do a lot to help the Canes’ team and especially the defense. However, it would cost a ton to acquire the defenseman. The Hurricanes would most likely have to start at Jeff Skinner and most likely add from there.
It’s true that the Rangers do have a lot of young d-men and need cap space, but who knows if they would be willing to part with Staal.
I also believe that the Canes’ defense is leagues better than it was last season. Andrej Sekera will help much more than Jamie McBain and the Mike Komisarek signing could work out well, while the continuing development of Brett Bellemore and Ryan Murphy will add depth and skill to the corps.
But it’s also possible that Jim Rutherford has asked about the availability of Staal.
