Friday Hurricanes Update

Carolina Hurricanes News

  • Yesterday’s blog on why the Canes should not look at Brenden Morrow can be found here
  • Video of the prospects at development camp working on power skating (Hurricanes’ Website)
  • Matt Karash gives a profile of Victor Rask and expectations for this upcoming season (HockeyBuzz)

My Opinion: Rask is definitely one of the better prospects in the Hurricanes’ system, but Matt’s expectations for this season may be too lofty. If he does make the team, I do not believe the right spot for him would be the wing on the Staal/Ruutu line.

He is a natural center and it may take time for him to convert. Rask could always play a season with the Checkers at wing and take time to develop.

  • The league has still not announced whether it will be involved with the 2014 Winter Olympics or released the 2013-14 schedule as was expected to be done yesterday.

  • Matt Duchene signed a five-year/$30 million extension with the Colorado Avalanche (USA Today)
